2020 Richmond Capital Fall Classic Champions

I’m proud to announce that our Skyline Elite U14 Boys took the crown in the Richmond Capital Fall Classic last weekend. It was a great way to conclude the 2020 Fall Season. The team, led by Coach Eri and Assistant Coach Drew, outscored their four opponents in the Premier Division by a 21-2 score. Thanks to SOCA and all involved for getting us through the season by following protocols during these unprecedented times. They were able to provide a positive outlet for all of the kids who have had a lot taken away from them over the past year and we are thankful for that. Happy holidays!

2020 Jefferson Cup

We’re proud of our boys’ performance at the annual Jefferson Cup tournament this past weekend in Richmond, Va. They were in a very tough division composed of teams from Atlanta, Richmond, and Pennsylvania. They competed extremely hard and just came up a little short. The team had a chance to make the Finals if they were able to defeat Inter Atlanta FC in their cold, Sunday morning match but lost 0-2. In the end, playing against tough opponents such as these will only make them better in the future.

FC Delco Cup: 23-25 May 2020

Our end of season tournament may seem like it’s far in the future, but hotels are already filling up in the Philadelphia area.

The few hotels that are near our designated field in the West Chester area have been filled since December. The booking agent has informed us that most hotels with availability are in the King of Prussia area, which is 30 minutes north of the high school fields we are assigned to. There may be some available 30 minutes south of the fields in the Wilmington area, just off I-95. My thinking is it cuts an hour of driving time both on the way up and on the way back if we are south of Philadelphia. I’m awaiting more information on what exactly is available and will forward soon.

Here’s a field map of Rustin High School where all U13 boys are tentatively scheduled to play.

For now, I’d like to find out if families have a preference for their hotel area. Please take the poll below and use the comments section if you have any suggestions. I included downtown Philadelphia in case some wanted to explore the city. Thank you in advance.

U12BX Year End Summary

In their first year of the State Cup competition, our boys made it to the VYSA round of 8 before losing to Alexandria in northern Virginia.

In CCL league play, U12B Apprentice finished a respectable fifth (tied with Beach FC) with a 9-4-3 (W-L-T) record and 30 points. SYA won the age group with 39 points. However, the top 5 finish contributed to SOCA winning the overall CCL Club title for boys and girls combined.

The FC Delco Cup tournament at the end of the Spring season saw the team putting together exciting, high effort play. They won their bracket with a 3-0 record, including a breathtaking, come from behind victory over a very good New Jersey team. SOCA was down 4-1 with only about 15 minutes to play. The last three goals came in the last 5 minutes to pull out the 5-4 win. In the semifinals, the ball just didn’t bounce their way and they lost 2-1 to another Virginia team (Braddock Road).

We thank Coach Matt and Andy Wilson for shepherding the boys through the season and look forward to another year under their leadership.

2019 Jefferson Cup Summary

The SOCA U12 Boys Apprentice team went 2-1 at the Spring 2019 pre-season tournament this past weekend. It was cold, wet, and muddy out at Striker Park in Richmond. The boys improved their play as the games progressed.

They eeked out a win with a late Ilias goal in game one v the Richmond Kickers Elite Black, 3-2. Henry L. and Spencer rounded out the scoring, with some excellent goalkeeping from Anders.

Then, they had a rematch with the tough eastern Pennsylvania team, Yardley-Makefield, to decide who would go to the semi-finals. They came up short again and lost 3-1, despite having the early lead with a Gavin goal. Yardley-Makefield went on to win in the Finals and only had three goals scored on them the entire tournament. Looking back, SOCA missed on a couple good chances and Yardley scored on an amazing free kick from distance.

The final, consolation match was against FC Richmond Magic, who SOCA U12BX defeated earlier in Fall CCL league play, 1-0. This one was exciting and finished 3-2 on Michael’s game winner from a tight angle at close range. SOCA scoring opened on a Connor goal from a Matthew assist on a nice through ball. But SOCA went down 2-1 in the second half before they tied it on a Leonidas header from a James’ corner. Anders kept this close throughout and the boys went home on a high note.
