Introducing Coach Erivaldo

Erivaldo Kates da Silva will be the new head coach for our U14 Skyline Elite team.

Coach Eri will also be coaching the U12 Boys Apprentice and U18/19 Boys Elite teams this season.

He coached the U11 Boys Apprentice and U19 Boys Elite teams this past season. His first year with SOCA (2018-2019), he coached the U13  and U17 Boys Premier teams. He was also the assistant boys’ varsity soccer coach at Albemarle High School and STAB over the last couple of years.

He currently holds a USSF D coaching license and will be pursuing his USSF C license in the near future.

Coach Erivaldo is 36 years old, from Sao Paulo, Brazil and was formerly known as Erivaldo Oliveira da Silva (pre-marriage?). He started in the Sao Paulo Academy before beginning his professional soccer career in Brazil when he was 20. After about seven years with several different Brazilian teams, he moved on to play in Rwanda (about 1 1/2 years) and then Thailand (about 3 years). His position was listed as Attacker or Striker.

There are some nice highlights of him with Thailand’s Prachuap FC here. He had a sweet cartwheel-backflip goal celebration.

Check out his website for more.

From SOCA Instagram posts, I know that he’s married and is a new father. I’m not sure what brought him to the US, but after coming to Charlottesville, he played local, semi-professional soccer with (now defunct) Cville FC in 2017-2018. He was the United Premier Soccer League’s Player of The Week in May 2018. There are some YouTube videos online with him in action with Cville FC. He scored five goals in a game once and appears to have been quite the scorer throughout his soccer career.

Looking forward to seeing Coach Erivaldo inject some Brazilian style and passion into the team!
